TBABuilt in 1825 as a theater for stage productions, the Capitol Theatre became a cinema in the late 1930s. Ultimately expanding to six screens in 1990, The Capitol mostly plays first-run features with occasional repertory screenings.
The theater fosters a welcoming, neighborhood atmosphere reflected in its diverse programming: baby-friendly matinees every Monday, theater rentals for birthday parties, and the Capitol Creamery, an old-fashioned ice-cream parlor located just off the lobby. Adding to its unique charm, the Disasterpiece Theater series offers a participatory movie night experience, featuring Z-grade films screened from VHS with audience commentary reminiscent of Mystery Science Theater 3000. All screenings utilize digital projections.
