The Brattle

Known as “Boston’s unofficial film school,” the Brattle has been showing movies since 1953 and has been a non-profit cinema since 2001. Located just one block from the Harvard Square MBTA Red Line T stop, it is one of the country’s last remaining single-screen cinemas. The Brattle has 200 seats and can show archival film prints in both 35mm and 16mm formats and digital cinema on a 4K laser projection system via its unique rear-screen projection booth.

The Brattle is renowned for its repertory programming, especially its regular double features and annual presentations of classics, while also screening first-run art-house fare. It frequently hosts writers and academics, in addition to being the home of a large number of annual film festivals, including The Boston Underground Film Fest, the Boston Jewish Film Festival, the RPM Fest, Wicked Queer, and Independent Film Festival Boston.
